John Hocking Classic Robb Johnson, with a small but perfectly formed band backing him up.
The live material gives extra depth as usual. Favorite track: No-one Wants To Look Like You [live].

about

This was really the first proper Irregulars album, released in 2007. Most of the songs are about journeys, & many of them were written in transit...3 were written whilst gigging in Thuringen, 3 were written in the US, 1 in Paris, 1 after being in the Mediterranean, 1 on a train south from Edinburgh, & 1 was inspired by having to get a very early train from Hove to Hounslow - the album cover photo was taken on my phone at Clapham Junction on one of those journeys to Hounslow. I think it was the photo that gave me the idea for the album title, which I think is a quotation from the 1979 film "The Warriors". I am not sure I realised just how much of this album was about being in motion. Although there are two (very) socially-engaged songs on the album, I thought of this as being one of those albums that might get a bit more recognition - & bookings! - than usual; for a start off, there was the folk legend Roger Watson duetting with folk wunderkind Saskia Tomkins on all these songs. Their playing still sounds utterly sublime, & Forrester's bass playing & backing vocals are as impeccable as always, & Paul's percussion playing is deft & inventive. We did our best to mix the nasty noisy electric guitar right down in the mix, left the very noisy punky song off the album, & I even forked out quite a bit of money for PR for this one too.
All to no avail, of course.
